Interview

We decided to interview the owner of the International Skin Institute Corli Du Plessis as well as her therapist Chanel and her manageress , and therapist Megan Prins to find out a little more about the people behind this very successful paramedical correctional skin care clinic in the heart of Claremont. On arrival we were warm heartedly welcomed and was offered a herbal tea in the most gorgeous tea set. My colleague chose a cup of coffee which once again was no ordinary cup…… served with whipped cream, a stunning khalua fudge coffee in designer cups, imported from London. The coffee beans freshly ground like everything else in this clinic where nothing is ordinary from the finest décor with finishing touches to the thorough treatments which is a reflection of the owner and her team as everything is done to perfection!! As we all sit in the reception area where the interviews were taking place we had a lovely view of table mountain through big glass doors and windows that re-assure us about Cape Town’s beauty and what a special place this is!!

What diploma’s have you achieved?
I did the National Beauty Therapy Diploma, International CIDESCO, International ITEC, Electrolysis Diploma, International Natural Pharmachology Diploma and lots of cosmetic diplomas (±20)

What did you do after your studies?
I worked for 6 months at Isa Carstens skin care clinic in Port Elizabeth, managed Complexion Perfection for 6 months and then bought the salon and owned it for 9 years. After 9 years I decided to go to London and worked there for another 6 months, obtaining more diploma’s.

We heard that you achieved a national record and won a trip to Paris. Can you tell us a little more about it?
When I worked with Gatineau I achieved the highest in sales in the history of Gatineau ever done in a day promotion and still hold the highest score ever to this day of sales done by one person. I was one of 6 fortunate therapists that went to Paris in 1993. All expenses paid for and it was one of my best overseas trips ever!!

What did you do when you came back to South Africa?
I worked and manage a salon at the Waterfront called Linda Van Niekerk Skin Care Clinic for about 3 years. During this time I did my natural pharmacology diploma which was the beginning of a new field in the industry.

Can you tell us a little more about the new field you went into?
Since then I have been operating in the medical aesthetic field where the emphasis changed from treating “skin types” to treating skin conditions such as acne, hyperpigmentation, ageing and normal skin types on a deeper and more medical level.

When was this very successful correctional skin care clinic called International Skin Institute formed?
International Skin Institute opened its doors on the 3rd October 2000 which we still manage to this day.
