BP Treatment for Mild to Moderate Acne

When applied to the surface of the skin, Benzoyl peroxide penetrates into the follicles and releases oxygen. This oxygen acts like bleach, killing the bacteria and opening up the acne impactions.

Benzoyl Peroxide is effective in concentrations of 2.5% to 10% potency. Potency, drying and irritation vary among the available preparation, depending on the base of the preparation, concentration, and the use of concurrent therapies.

The gel base preparation is the most potent because it allows the greatest penetration into the pore.

Benzoyl Peroxide is applied once or twice daily until dry scaling occurs. Usually no new lesions appear after three weeks of treatments, and after two months, the acne problem is frequently under control.

The more you apply, and the longer it stays on, the faster you will see clearing. Topical Benzoyl Peroxide has been shown to have an antibacterial effect and to be at least as effective as oral tetracycline in decreasing free fatty acid levels in the skin. After 2 weeks of use, 10% Benzoyl Peroxide reduced free fatty acids by almost 50% and acne bacteria by 98%. Benzoyl Peroxide is highly effective and has minimal side effects when compared with the potential adverse reactions from oral antibiotics like Tetracycline and Accutane.

The peroxide is quite potent and may cause temporary burning, itching and peeling of the skin. This is an expected part of the treatment cycle. The skin will rapidly become tolerant or hardened to the Benzoyl Peroxide and the irritation will disappear with continued use. Apply Benzoyl Peroxide lotion to entire problem area avoiding excessive amounts near eye and neck since redness and irritation are quite likely in these particular areas.

Caution

Benzoyl Peroxide will bleach hair and fabric. Store in cool, dry place and keep away from children.

Usage
